We are entering the final month of 2021! Wishing you and yours a joyous holiday season!
New Homeowner Holiday Gift Guide
We all know someone who has purchased a home in the last year or two! While last year may have kept us away from friends and loved ones due to COVID, this year, more of us are getting together. I often get asked, “What is a good new homeowner gift?” These are a few of my go-to’s:
-
Cheese Board and knives. Great ones at shops such as Marcel’s in downtown Glen Ellyn (bonus: supporting local), Homegoods or customizable on Etsy.
-
An ornament for the tree with the year they purchased their home.
-
Fun doormat.
-
Local Restaurant Gift Certificate. Another great way to support local and get them to know the area.
-
Wine glasses with a bottle of wine, wine trinkets for the holiday.
-
Book: “The Home Edit” or “Homebody”
-
New Mug- add in hot chocolate, candy cane and holiday candy.
-
A Welcome Sign for their front porch. You can find these at Hobby Lobby or customize on Etsy.
-
Home Decor- think Pottery Barn/Hobby Lobby “home” themed.
-
Ring Doorbell.
-
Wreath for the front door. You can purchase custom ones on Etsy.
-
Amazon gift card.
Selling December
As I reflect back on this year and the families I helped to purchase a home, I know first hand how important their purchase was. Home has taken on a whole new meaning in 2021. As we enter year 2 of the pandemic, homeowners have a new appreciation for their homes.
According to the 2021 State of American Homeowner report by Unison:
“Last year, staying home became a necessity and that caused many homeowners to have renewed gratitude for the roof over their head.”
“As a nation, we continue to work through the challenges of a pandemic that’s pushed us all to new limits. Over the past year and a half, we’ve spent more time than ever at home: working, eating, schooling, exercising, and more. The world around us changed almost overnight, and our homes were redefined. Our needs shifted, and our shelters became a place that protected us on a whole new level. The same study from Unison notes:
-
91% of homeowners say they feel secure, stable, or successful owning a home
-
64% of American homeowners say living through a pandemic has made their home more important to them than ever
-
83% of homeowners say their home has kept them safe during the COVID-19 pandemic”

Many of my clients have decided to move during the last 2 years so they can live the lifestyle they want, in their home. Many times this was to upsize, so they can have more room for the family, a larger outdoor space. If you are considering a move, let’s talk about it.
